Cynthia

Cynthia is a Latinized form of the Greek name Kynthia, meaning "woman from Kynthos," derived from Kynthos, the name of a mountain on the island of Delos in the Aegean Sea. In Greek mythology, Kynthia was an epithet of the goddess Artemis, who according to legend was born on Mount Kynthos, and the name was also applied to her twin brother Apollo in the masculine form Kynthios. The name entered broad use in English-speaking countries during the 18th century, partly through literary and poetic tradition, where it was a common appellation for the moon goddess. Related forms include Cindy, which arose as a diminutive, and the masculine cognate Cynthius.
