Margaretta

Margaretta is an elaborated Latinate form of Margaret, which derives ultimately from the Greek word margaritēs, meaning pearl. The name entered European use through Latin Margarita and spread widely during the medieval period, borne by numerous queens and saints who helped cement its popularity across the continent. Margaretta represents one of several ornate variants that flourished particularly in the early modern era alongside Margherita, Margarethe, and Margareta.
