Pehr

Pehr is a Swedish form of Peter, which derives from the Greek Petros, itself a translation of the Aramaic name Kepha, meaning rock or stone. The name was made famous by the apostle Simon Peter in the New Testament, and it spread widely across Europe through the influence of Christianity. Pehr was used in Sweden particularly during the early modern period and is associated with figures such as the Swedish botanist Pehr Kalm, a student of Carl Linnaeus. Closely related forms include Per, the more common modern Swedish variant, as well as Peer in Danish and Norwegian.
