Pelle

Pelle is a Swedish familiar form of Per, itself the Scandinavian adaptation of the Latin Petrus, which derives from the Greek Petros meaning rock or stone. The name ultimately traces back to the Aramaic Kephas, the word Jesus used to name the apostle Simon, making it part of one of the most widespread name families in the Christian world. In Scandinavia, Pelle has been used as both an affectionate short form and an independent given name, and it is perhaps best known internationally through the 1987 novel and subsequent film Pelle the Conqueror by Martin Andersen Nexø.
