Piet

Piet is a Dutch short form of Pieter, itself the Dutch equivalent of Peter, which derives from the Greek Petros, meaning rock or stone. The name was popularized by the New Testament apostle Simon Peter, to whom Jesus gave this epithet. Piet has been widely used in the Netherlands and Flanders, carried by figures such as the Dutch abstract painter Piet Mondrian. Related forms include Pieter, Pete, and Pietro.
