Pieter

Pieter is the Dutch form of Peter, derived from the Greek name Petros, itself a translation of the Aramaic name Kepha, both meaning rock or stone. The name was popularized throughout the Christian world by the apostle Simon Peter, a central figure in the New Testament. Pieter has been common in the Netherlands and Flanders for centuries, borne by numerous notable figures including the Flemish painters Pieter Bruegel the Elder and his son Pieter Bruegel the Younger.
