Adalbert

Adalbert is a Germanic name composed of the elements adal, meaning noble, and beraht, meaning bright or famous, giving the overall sense of nobly bright or illustrious through nobility. It was widely used among medieval European royalty and clergy, most notably by Saint Adalbert of Prague, the tenth-century missionary bishop who became the patron saint of Poland, Bohemia, and Hungary. The name spread across much of Europe through ecclesiastical and aristocratic influence, producing cognates such as Albert, Albrecht, and Aubert, as well as the Latinized form Adalbertus.
