Adalbert

Adalbert is a Germanic masculine name composed of the elements adal, meaning noble, and beraht, meaning bright or famous, giving the overall sense of nobly bright or illustrious through nobility. The name was widely used among medieval European royalty and clergy, most notably by Saint Adalbert of Prague, the tenth-century bishop and martyr who became the patron saint of Bohemia, Poland, and Prussia. The name spread across much of Europe through Christian veneration of this saint and through the influence of noble families. Albert is the most common modern form, with regional variants including Albrecht in German, Adalberto in Italian and Spanish, and Wojciech serving as a Slavic equivalent in the Polish tradition.
