Albert

From the Old High German name Adalbert, composed of the elements adal, meaning noble, and beraht, meaning bright or famous, giving the overall sense of nobly bright or illustrious through nobility. The name was borne by several medieval saints and rulers, and gained widespread use across Europe partly through the influence of Albert the Great, the thirteenth-century scholar and theologian. Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, consort of Queen Victoria, helped popularize the name in the English-speaking world during the nineteenth century.
