Albert

From the Old High German name Adalbert, composed of the elements adal, meaning noble, and beraht, meaning bright or famous, giving the overall sense of nobly bright or illustrious through nobility. The name was borne by several medieval saints and spread widely across Europe through Germanic influence, later gaining particular prominence with figures such as Albert the Great, the thirteenth-century philosopher and theologian, and Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg, consort of Queen Victoria. The related form Adalbert remains in use in some Central European traditions, while Albrecht is the common German variant and Alberto is widespread in Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese. Bert is a common short form shared with several other names of similar Germanic composition.
