Elsie

Elsie originated as a Scottish pet form of Elspeth, itself the Scottish variant of Elizabeth, which derives from the Hebrew name Elisheba, meaning my God is an oath or my God is abundance. It came into broader use as an independent given name throughout the English-speaking world during the nineteenth century, carried in part by sentimental popularity in literature and song.
