Emmy

Emmy is a Germanic diminutive form of names beginning with the element ermen or irmin, meaning whole or universal, most commonly derived from Emma or Emmeline. The name gained widespread use in English-speaking countries during the nineteenth century as an affectionate short form and eventually became an independent given name in its own right. It is internationally recognized through the Emmy Award, named after the image orthicon tube used in early television, though the award's name also echoes the feminine given name.
