Ginnie

Ginnie is an English diminutive form of Virginia, which itself derives from the Latin family name Virginius, possibly connected to the Latin word virgo meaning maiden or virgin. The name Virginia gained widespread use in the English-speaking world partly through the fame of Virginia Dare, the first English child born in America in 1587. Ginnie functions as an informal pet form alongside Ginny and Jinny, all of which share the same ultimate Latin root.
