Robert

Robert is a Germanic name composed of the elements hrod, meaning fame or glory, and beraht, meaning bright, giving the overall sense of bright fame. It was introduced to England by the Normans and became enormously popular throughout medieval Europe, borne by three kings of Scotland, including Robert the Bruce, as well as numerous saints and nobles. The name has given rise to familiar short forms such as Rob, Bob, and Robin, and appears across European languages in forms including Roberto, Rupert, Ruprecht, and the Hungarian and Slovak variant Róbert.
