Elsbeth

Elsbeth is a German contracted form of Elisabeth, which itself derives from the Hebrew name Elisheba, composed of the elements el, meaning God, and sheva, meaning oath or perhaps abundance. The name was borne by the biblical wife of Aaron and later became widely popular throughout Europe due to veneration of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary. Elsbeth remained in steady use in German-speaking regions and is closely related to the forms Else, Ilse, and Lieselotte, as well as the broader international variants Elizabeth and Isabella.
